Bryson Baumgartel is a music director, conductor, pianist, guitarist, and arranger for Broadway and beyond. For over a decade, Bryson has been collaborating with artists and writers across a wide spectrum of genres and styles to bring stories to life on stage.

This past year, Bryson closed the Tony Award-winning revival of “Merrily We Roll Along” on Broadway as Associate Music Director. You can hear Bryson on the piano and synth in the New Broadway Cast Recording of “Merrily” wherever you get your music. In addition to subbing on other Broadway shows like “Aladdin” and “The Great Gatsby”, Bryson has enjoyed music directing all over the country at top-tier regional theaters such as Tuacahn Center for the Arts, The Gateway Playhouse, and Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

While in between gigs as music director, Bryson has also enjoyed periodically assisting new productions in their early stages of pre-production with copy work and music prep – most notably; “Hercules” at Paper Mill Playhouse, and viral sensation “SuperYou”.

A Virginia native, Bryson attended Virginia Tech where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance. During his time as a student, Bryson music directed Juxtaposition, the premier all-male a cappella group on campus. During his tenure he arranged nearly 30 songs for the group, several of which have been recorded and featured on national “Best-of” compilation albums. Bryson’s arrangement of “Pompeii” by Bastille has been streamed over 2 million times. Bryson also enjoyed a very active life in the choral space, singing in and playing for multiple groups while in school, and even traveling to Italy to sing at the St. Peter’s in the Vatican and St. Mark’s in Venice.

Before graduating college, Bryson embarked on what would become a long working relationship with Disney Theatricals. Under the supervision of arranger and conductor Michael Kosarin, Bryson has helped bring “Aladdin” (Broadway), “The Beauty & the Beast” (2017 live-action film), and Hercules (Paper Mill and beyond) to audiences in capacities ranging from music assistant and rehearsal pianist to assistant music director. 

​Bryson now happily resides in Bloomfield, NJ with his wife Emily and their two dogs, sheepadoodle Addie and collie mix Cali.
